6 FEBRUARY 2021 - 7 FEBRUARY 2021
/ ON THE BRINK
The world we live in is one of unbelievable prosperity and remarkable possibility. As rates of poverty plummet, technology rapidly progresses, and we inch closer and closer towards becoming a post-scarcity civilization, the world is seemingly undeniably on the brink of greatness. Yet at the same time, existential threats that once were mere unlikely looming perils have now become legitimately worrying obstacles to the longevity of human presence on Earth. As a globalised world makes us concerningly susceptible to disease and employment crises, the climate of the Earth continues to rise to unprecedented levels in the modern era, and new weapons of warfare endanger the lives of billions of humans at a single moment, we must ask whether we are, actually, on the brink of calamity. HKISMUN 2021 will serve as a platform for students representing all perspectives of society to explore the possibilities of either humanity’s success and the creation of a post-conventional society or humanity’s failure as we fall victim to issues of our own creation.
